Replace a Condensate Pump

Swap the pump (mini-split / furnace / coil), verify the float operates, WIRE the safety/overflow float switch into the Y/24 V circuit so it cuts cooling on failure, fit the check valve and a sloped discharge line, then pour-test it.

Before you start

•Pump confirmed failed: won't run on a high float, runs but won't lift water, leaks, or the reservoir overflows — and the drain itself isn't simply clogged downstream.
•Replacement pump rated for the lift height and gph needed; plus a safety/overflow float switch if one isn't already wired in.
•Power can be killed to the pump and the 24 V thermostat circuit is accessible for the safety switch.

Isolate & remove

Kill power and drain the old pump
Unplug/de-energize the pump, verify 0 V on any line-voltage leads, and drain the reservoir before removing it so you don't dump water in the equipment.
Tools: Multimeter
⚠ De-energize before working; clean up water to avoid slip/electrical hazards.
Disconnect tubing and remove
Disconnect the inlet drain line and the discharge tubing, note the safety-switch wiring (if present), and remove the old pump.

Install & wire the safety

Mount, fit a check valve and slope the discharge
Set the pump level, connect the inlet drain, and run the discharge tubing with a check valve at the pump outlet (prevents back-drain/short-cycling) and a continuous upward-then-sloped run to the drain. Avoid sags that trap water.

Wire the safety/overflow float into the Y/24 V circuit
Land the pump's safety/overflow float switch in SERIES with the Y (cooling) call on the 24 V thermostat circuit so a high-water condition cuts the compressor BEFORE the pan overflows. A pump without this protection floods on failure.

Verify operation

Pour-test the pump and the safety
Pour water into the reservoir: the pump must turn on at the float level, lift the water out fully, and shut off cleanly. Then raise water to the safety-switch level and confirm the cooling call drops out.
Target: Pump cycles on/off on the float and clears water; safety cuts Y at high level
