Replace a Condenser Coil

Recover, unbolt/unbraze the microchannel or tube-and-fin coil (handle microchannel carefully — it's easy to damage and often not field-repairable), braze the new coil in with N2, install fresh driers, pressure-test + deep-evacuate, recharge, and straighten/protect the fins.

Before you start

  • Coil confirmed as the leak (electronic/bubble/UV-dye found it) and the replacement coil matched to the unit — microchannel (MCHX) vs round-tube-plate-fin must match the original.
  • EPA 608 certified; recover the charge before opening the system.
  • Aware that microchannel coils are aluminum, brazed differently, and frequently NOT field-repairable — replacement is usually the only option.
