Service the Gas Burners (Furnace)

Pull and clean the burners plus the crossover/carryover ports, check burner alignment and a crisp blue flame (lazy/yellow flame = a problem), clear scale and spider/insect nests, reseat with no gas leaks, then verify ignition, carryover, and flame sense.

Before you start

•Symptoms point to burner fouling: delayed ignition / rollout, lazy yellow flames, sooting, or poor flame sense — or it's routine maintenance.
•Gas can be shut at the manual valve and power killed at the furnace switch; the model's burner-removal method is understood.
•A combustion analyzer is available to confirm clean combustion after service.

Isolate & remove

Shut gas, kill power, let it cool
Close the manual gas valve, turn off the furnace switch, and let the burners cool. Verify 0 V at the controls before working.

Remove the burners and inspect
Remove the burner assembly per the model (typically the manifold/burner rack). Inspect for rust scale, spider/insect nests in the venturi (a classic delayed-ignition cause), and any cracked/burned burner.
Target: Note any spider nests, scale, or burner damage

Clean & align

Clean burners and crossover/carryover ports
Brush/blow out the burner ports and the crossover (carryover) slots that pass flame burner-to-burner, and clear the venturi/orifice path. Plugged carryover ports cause uneven or delayed light-off across the burners.

Reinstall with correct alignment
Reseat the burners squarely in their slots, aligned with the heat-exchanger inlets and the igniter/flame sensor positions. Misaligned burners cause flame impingement, noise, and poor flame sense.
Target: Burners seated/aligned to the heat-exchanger inlets and igniter/sensor

Verify flame & combustion

Leak-check the gas connections
Restore gas and leak-check every joint you disturbed (manifold, unions) with bubble solution or a gas detector. No bubbles, no detector alarm.

Confirm a crisp blue flame and clean ignition
Run the furnace and watch ignition: prompt light-off, clean carryover across all burners, and steady, mostly-blue flames. Lazy, yellow, or lifting flames mean restriction, misalignment, or a gas/air problem. Check flame sense in µA and verify combustion with the analyzer.
