Replace a PSC Blower Motor (Air Handler)
Match HP, speed count, voltage, rotation, and frame plus the run-capacitor µF; land the multi-speed TAPS correctly (identify which tap is the heat speed vs the cool speed); then verify rotation, CFM/external static, and amp draw against the nameplate.
Approx. 90 min
Before you start
- •Motor confirmed failed (won't start with a good cap, open/grounded windings, dragging bearings, or overheating) — with the run capacitor tested, since a weak cap fails a good PSC motor.
- •Replacement PSC motor matching the nameplate: HP, number of speeds, voltage, rotation, frame, and shaft diameter; plus a run capacitor matching the NEW motor's specified µF.
- •Power can be killed at the air-handler breaker/disconnect and a meter + clamp are available.
Tools & materials
Multimeter (ohms/capacitance) + clamp meter · Nut drivers/wrenches, hex keys for the wheel set screw · Replacement PSC motor + matched run capacitor · Phone camera (photo wiring + tap usage before) · Manometer (external static / CFM check)
